A H Almaas

"It's only when compassion is present will people allow themselves to see the truth"

I am a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, a Certified Canadian Addiction Counsellor and a registered member of the Canadian Addiction Counsellors Certification Federation. I have observed that compassion, awareness and building intentional, meaningful relationships are the keys to well-being. My approach as a counsellor is person-centered and trauma-informed. I work from both an abstinence-based and harm-reduction framework. I believe deeply in the strength of connection. Building a strong network of support is critical as you embark on your recovery journey. Whether you're seeking to make changes related to substance use or are simply looking for support to move towards your goals, I will honour you, your strengths and ability to create positive changes in your life.

What Makes Me Unique?

An authentic space cannot be created from in inauthentic place. While I am skilled and trained in addiction, mental health and wellness, I am someone who has experienced pain. It was a process of movement, curiosity, self-discovery and stillness that guided me here. Unraveling ourselves takes patience, compassion and trust. Transformation occurs when we step into our fears. I support you on your journey as you slow down, listen to your innate wisdom, hold, heal and engage in play/integration. You are unconditionally accepted and empowered. My mission is to provide space for you to connect and experience the inherent goodness, power, resiliency and calm that is within.

Life circumstances can leave us feeling overwhelmed, often stuck, and struggling to make sense of things. I help you to understand and identify these thoughts, feelings, and emotions. I offer a safe confidential space where together we can work through these areas of your life moving towards an understanding and acceptance of what has taken place, allowing for healing, change and possibilities.
I have trained as an Integrative Counsellor, and as a Reflexologist in the UK almost 20 years ago. Since my move to Canada in 2010 I have become a Life Coach, a Child and Youth Care Counsellor, and an Equine Assisted Personal Development Coach, further adding to my skills. I have experience working with individuals of all ages, families and couples managing addiction, trauma, suicide ideation, mTBI, anxiety, depression, ADHD, stress, overwhelm, low self-esteem, lack of confidence and complex needs.
I believe in the uniqueness of each individual offering Integrative Counselling tailoring sessions to your own needs.

My compassion for life experiences led me to begin my career as a Correctional Worker. It was through this meaningful and challenging work where I built lasting relationships. I witnessed change, transformation and empowerment. Mental health and addiction impacts us all. I have unwaveringly committed myself to 24 years in the social service field.

I am a Registered Social Worker and work extensively in acute and outpatient concurrent disorder programs. I work from a strengths-based, person-centered approach to support youth, adult individuals, families and couples overcoming obstacles in their lives. I provide a safe and confidential space for you as we customize your treatment plan. Your counselling experience with me is an integrated approach with modalities such as Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy and Narrative Therapy.

I look forward to witnessing and walking alongside you as you step into your healing journey.
